Water Damage Repair in Stoney Creek

Water damage repair is a race against corrosion, not against water. A phone that fell in the sink or a laptop that took a coffee spill will often still switch on, which is exactly what makes people wait. In the days that follow, liquid residue eats through the tiny connections on the logic board, and a device that was straightforward on Monday becomes a much harder job by Friday. If your device has taken liquid, bring it to our Stoney Creek bench as soon as you can. The diagnostic is free and you get the price before we start.

We fix water damaged devices every day, & the ones that arrive fastest are the ones we save.

What Counts as Water Damage

Water damage covers far more than a phone dropped in a pool. We see the same faults from a dozen different accidents:

  • Phones dropped in sinks, toilets, bathtubs and lakes
  • Coffee, juice, beer and soda spilled into laptop keyboards
  • Devices caught in rain, snow or a leaking bag
  • Phones left in pockets through a wash cycle
  • Steam damage from bathrooms and kitchens
  • Sweat corrosion in smart watches and earbuds
  • Flood and basement water damage to desktops and consoles

Salt water, sugary drinks and soapy water do the most damage the fastest, because they leave behind residue that keeps conducting and keeps corroding long after the device has dried out.

Signs Your Device Has Liquid Damage

Some symptoms show up right away. Others take a week or two to appear, which is why a device that seemed fine after a spill can fail later for no obvious reason.

  • The screen shows lines, blotches, flickering or a dim patch
  • The device will not charge, or only charges at one angle
  • Speakers sound muffled, crackly or cut out entirely
  • The battery drains far faster than it used to
  • Buttons stop responding or press themselves
  • The device runs hot or restarts on its own
  • It will not power on at all
  • The camera fogs up or focuses poorly

Our Water Damage Repair Process

Drying a device is not a repair. The liquid is only the first problem, and the residue it leaves behind is the one that actually kills hardware. Our process deals with both.

1. Free diagnostic and full disassembly

We open the device and inspect the board under magnification. Liquid indicators, corrosion trails and shorted components tell us how far the damage has spread and whether the job is worth doing. You get a clear answer and a firm price before we go further.

2. Board level cleaning

The logic board comes out and gets cleaned properly, with the connectors, shields and sockets treated individually. This is the step that most repair attempts skip, and it is the one that decides whether the device lasts another two years or fails again in a month.

3. Corrosion removal and component replacement

Anything already eaten through gets replaced. That may be a charging port, a backlight filter, a power management circuit or a battery that has started to swell. We repair at component level rather than swapping whole boards, which keeps the cost down and keeps your data where it is.

4. Testing before it goes back to you

Charging, screen, cameras, speakers, microphones, buttons, sensors and wireless all get checked. We do not hand back a device that only powers on.

Data Recovery from Water Damaged Devices

Sometimes a device is too far gone to bring back as a working phone, but the photos, messages and contacts are still recoverable. If the data matters more than the hardware, tell us at drop off and we will prioritise it. Every power-on attempt on a corroded board risks the storage chip, so the fewer times a wet device has been switched on, the better the odds.

Devices We Repair

We handle liquid damage on iPhone, Samsung Galaxy, Google Pixel and Motorola phones, MacBook and Windows laptops, iPad and Galaxy Tab tablets, Apple Watch and Galaxy Watch, and gaming consoles including PS5, Xbox and Nintendo Switch.

What to Do Right Now

If it just happened, these next few minutes matter more than anything else.

Do This

  • Power it off and leave it off
  • Unplug it and take the case off
  • Blot the outside dry and stand it upright so liquid drains away from the board
  • Bring it in the same day if you can

Do not do this:

  • Do not plug it in to see if it charges. Power across a wet board is what causes shorts
  • Do not keep switching it on to test it
  • Do not use a hair dryer or heat gun. Heat pushes liquid deeper and damages adhesive and screens
  • Do not put it in rice. Rice does nothing for the residue that causes the damage, and it buys time for corrosion to spread

Why Timing Changes the Price

A device that reaches our bench within twenty four hours is usually a cleaning job. The same device two weeks later often needs components replaced, and by then the repair costs more and succeeds less often. Nothing about that is a sales tactic. It is simply how corrosion works on a board with power still running through it.

Good to know

Frequently Asked Questions

Often yes, especially if it comes in quickly. Devices that have been sitting for weeks or that were repeatedly switched on while wet have lower success rates, and we will tell you honestly where yours falls after the diagnostic.

No. Rice absorbs a little ambient moisture and does nothing about the conductive residue left on the board, which is what causes the real damage. The time spent in the rice is time corrosion is spreading.

Water resistance ratings are tested on new devices in clean water. Seals age, and drops and screen replacements break them. Water resistant phones come to our bench regularly.

Most jobs are back within a few days, depending on how far the corrosion has spread and whether parts are needed. We give you a timeline with the quote.

You will know after the free diagnostic. If the board is beyond repair we will tell you, and we can look at recovering your data instead.
